The sports media mogul stopped by three pizza joints in Chester County this week for his One Bite Pizza Review series and seemed pleased with all three pies he sampled
The first stop on the tour was Pizza West Chester at 136 E Market St., where customers have to actually show up to receive their pie — there's no delivery.
The locals made sure the wait was worth Portnoy's while, though, dialing up former Eagle and Super Bowl LII champ Brent Celek and giving Portnoy a chance to chat with him.
When the pizza was ready, it earned a whopping 8.4 from the widely-known pizza critic, who can be famously tough to please.
Next up was the West Chester Pizza Cafe at 701 W. Nields St., a more recent addition to the local scene that opened its doors in 2020.
The Cafe scored bonus points for its atmosphere, according to Portnoy. "It's cute! It's just a cute vibe in there," he said.
As for the pie, Portnoy said it could've used a little longer in the oven, but changed his tune after taking a bite. He ultimately called the pizza "light and good" before handing down a strong 8.1 rating.
The final stop of the tour was at Benny's Pizzeria at 114 N. Church St, a no-frills pie joint with many years in business, Portnoy explained.
The pizza was a "classic football pie — not bad," but didn't score as highly as its competition, closing out the West Chester run with a 7.3.
